One of the things I love being about a food blogger – is getting invited to events like this All About Food Sensory Experience Cocktail Evening. Set on the Rooftop @ Blu in Wynberg, overlooking the Sandton sky scrapers as they twinkle under the moonlight, it turned out to be quite a fabulous night out!
As you walk toward the function area on the rooftop, you are met with the royal red carpet, which leads you to some lovely ladies, and the chef, who hand you a glass with champagne and an ice lolly dipped into it. We were also able to choose between smoked salmon or steak tartare to start with. We both opted for the smoked salmon. These were very tasty and a perfect way to start the night.
When walking in to the function area, you are met with a DJ and turntablist playing their beats, an open cocktail bar serving an unlimited about of fabulous cocktails and sparkling champagne all night to the guests. (small point here – Husby does not drink alcohol – they had no non-alcoholic drinks available, except water. So poor Husby drank water all night – this for me was poor show)
We took our champagne and ice lolly drinks and headed to the edge of the roof top where we enjoyed the sights and sounds of the city while enjoying these drinks. Husby gave me his champagne and enjoyed his lolly.
We then mingled around, taking photos and enjoying all that the function had to offer. There was 2 arcade style car games with a competition going for the fastest racer. Tables and chairs and couches set around for everyone to get comfortable and obviously the good music going on.
The decor was well, all about food. The table centerpieces were Parmesan and sesame chips set in a bouquet with spinach and parsley and other greens. Jars of carrots as well as jars of lettuce and kale made an interesting sight and talking point – at least for Husby and I.
Food came around on cocktail trays, and there was certainly no shortage. We were presented with a lot of different cocktail style dishes, that were both tasty and beautiful. We didn’t taste every dish as there was way too much food going around for us to taste everything. What we did taste, we loved.
Being an outdoor night time event, the lighting was poor, and my camera on my phone really struggles to take decent photos in this lighting. This is the best I could offer I am afraid.
Thirst For Life sponsored the drinks. I enjoyed some champagne, a margarita, and a litchi margarita. My favourite being the litchi flavoured margarita. Thank you Thirst For Life!
All in all we had a great night and I would like to thank the sponsors for inviting me and for putting on a great event. Here are the sponsors – click the links to find out more about each sponsor for your next event
