Hello there! Wow it sure has been a long time since I have sat at my computer to type a post for my blog. The last month has just been a blur – I am sure it has for you too! And suddenly here we are scratching out the number 2016 when we write the date as we get used to the fact that 2017 is here in full force already. I mean when I sit down to think about memories involving the numbers of a year, I remember driving on the highway seeing billboards advertising all the changes that will happen to prepare for the 2010 soccer world cup and thinking – “ag that’s only 2 years away – still a long time to go before that!” and suddenly as if I have teleported through time here I am sitting in the midst of January 2017. Does anyone else feel like time is going just way too fast?
This past month was a big one for me. I turned 30 for starters and am suddenly feeling like I am on the older side of life! You know when you tell people you are twenty-something and still feel like quite a baby! Now when someone wants to ask my age, I want to shy away from the answer. Like who cares right?
December was also a biggie for me because my family and I moved cross country from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Now before you get all judgy on me – I know that you are probably thinking along the same lines as many family members and friends back in Joburg – that I am ditching them for the DA – but I am not. Honestly I am not.
Firstly I didn’t ditch anyone. I still keep in contact with my close friends and family and still care about them all in a huge way.
And secondly – the reason we moved was to give my kids a more outdoor lifestyle. Outdoor recreation is generally free in Cape Town! YAY! And includes fitness building and body strengthening without even realising it! I tell you if I didn’t have my phone synced to the Vitality step counter and earning my weekly smoothies – I wouldn’t even notice that every week since we have moved I have made my goal! Pretty awesome! I have loved the free smoothies from Kauai and scoring a wrap to go with it for only R50!
We have visited countless beaches and each beach is different and beautiful in its own way – which I love. We have picniced and hiked, visited the vlei, played at the park, drove along Chapmans Peak and swam in a lagoon in and amongst so much else. We are more tan than we were, fitter than before and loving the Cape. Yes it is VERY windy, but for some reason I actually don’t seem to mind. On the windy days kite surfers abound at the local beach and I just love watching them – it is so mesmerising! There is beauty everywhere here and is a constant reminder of our Creator!
Another bonus – although honestly not the main motivation – is that I am a foodie and Cape Town is like foodie-central! I look forward to discovering the foodie-world here in the Cape and even more than that – I look forward to sharing that with you!
At the moment I am aware that most of my readership is from Johannesburg, and to you lovely “Vaalies” as the Capetonians have dubbed us – I hope that what you get out of this blog going forward is some insight on where to go, what to do and where to eat in the Cape when you come down here on holiday or business.
To my new Capetonian readers – I hope to offer something interesting and different from the other Cape Town food blogs and have some ideas in store – stay tuned!
At the beginning of every year, people have this tendancy to get all sentimental and start remembering the past and either hoping and/or fearing for the future. Goals are made. Dreams are planned for. And diets begin. Not for me. I felt so numb on new years day. Like it was just another day in just another year. Maybe this is because my December had been so charged with emotion that I was all emotioned-out. My foodie goals for 2017 is to discover more. Be more adventurous. Dream more. Create more. Find the realness in food. Build a better relationship with food. And I want to savour it. No more buying of food and stuffing it in my face in the car without even realising – I need to take the food to a spot, a table whether at home or on a picnic blanket and truly enjoy, smell, feel and taste each and every bite.
